FEDERAL FELONIES
Federal Charges Criminal Defense
Federal Crimes Defense

In terms of time devoted, BLF's practice focuses primarily on the defense of federal criminal allegations and investigations brought in federal court through the U.S. Attorney's Office of New York, the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) working together with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the United States Marshalls Service, the FBI or ATF as well as other federal agencies having police authority to prosecute crimes at the federal level. It is especially crucial at the federal level to have a good criminal lawyer, or even legal team, on your side - one who is has experience in dealing with the federal criminal system.

Federal Criminal Investigations

Federal investigations and prosecutions are well-funded, well-organized and designed to gather and marshall a great deal of evidence against their targets before an arrest is made. It is for this reason that it is equally crucial that you are upfront and honest with your federal criminal defense lawyers from the outset. The FBI, for example, may have been conducting surveillance for over a year before arresting you.

They will likely have wire taps that have recorded conversations. Others that you were dealing with may have already turned informant. Your criminal defense lawyer will have only you, at the outset of his representation, to rely on to provide information. As the case progresses your attorneys may conduct their own private criminal investigation through private detectives and the discovery process, but you are always the best source of information.

The last thing you want is for the prosecution to know more about the case than your federal defense lawyers because you were not completely honest with them.

Federal Criminal Charges

Within this arena of federal criminal defense, our lawyers defend charges stemming from the following allegations:
- Major Fraud Against the United States
- Wire Fraud
- Mail Fraud
- Federal Drug Charges
- Federal Weapons Charges
- Corporate Fraud
- Price Fixing
- Bid Rigging
- Insider Trading
- Insurance Fraud
- Tax Evasion
- Tax Fraud
- Accounting Fraud
- Investment Fraud
- Toxic Waste Dumping
- Crimes Against the Environment
- Kidnapping
- Drug Trafficking and Drug Sales
- Racketeering / RICO
- Conspiracy and other Organized Crime Charges
- Money Laundering
- Public Corruption
- Bribery of Public Official
- Bank Fraud
- Weapons Trafficking
- Counterfeiting
- Import / Export of Stolen Vehicles and other Import Crimes.
The above list is not an exhaustive one. It should also be noted that the vast majority of federal criminal cases are prosecuted on theories involving, conspiracy, wire fraud, mail fraud and RICO. It is important to note that a conviction on a federal crime does not invoke double jeopardy for collateral state prosecution.

A defendant accused of federal crime might also be exposed to state criminal liability. The opposite is also true. Although the Eastern District of New York's U.S. Attorney's Office is said to have in internal policy not to prosecute cases handled at the state level, the same cannot be said for state prosecutions of federal convictions.

Aggressive Federal Criminal Defense

The answer will depend on the internal policies of each state, or sometimes, district's attorney's offices. BLF and its
